3 Keys to Wage War on Your Worry

What keeps you up at night? Regret. Pain. Finances. Loneliness. Loss.

All the things keeping us up, tossing and turning, trying to win the battle raging in our hearts and minds, take root in worry.  We’re scared;  the outcome of our situations steals our sleep while worst-case scenarios play on repeat in our sweet little heads. For me, the voice of the enemy gets louder and much more obnoxious when the lights go out.

In the busyness of the day, I can handle the stress of the unknown. However, the minute my head hits the pillow, my mind is a flurry of what if scenarios swirling uncontrollably. It’s the dead of night quiet that keeps me up for hours…worrying. Our what ifs leave us in a place of in-between–caught in the middle of a tug of war

Being an entrepreneur’s wife brings an added weight of responsibility for others. Our employees are like family-two actually are family; my oldest son, the one with a wife and young family of his own, works for us and our younger son does too. After over twenty years in business, you’d think I’d be used to carrying this somewhat heavier load. But, I’m not. However, over the years, I’ve learned to wage war on my worry in order to get a better night’s sleep.

“It’s time to stop losing sleep over a battle we’re not meant to be fighting in the first place.”

Maybe as a mom, small business owner, or caretaker you can relate to feeling the weight of being responsible for others? After taking care of everyone else all day, we need to learn how to take care of ourselves. We carry a heavy load, but it’s not meant to bring us down.

Are you warring against worry too?

When the flurry of worries starts, I run for the cover of Almighty’s wings. There, I find the comfort my racing minds needs to settle down and trust God’s provision and timing. It’s an unconventional weapon which works wonders when worry threatens to waylay me. Would you like to know my battle plan?

When I’m wondering how to get some much needed rest, I know exactly where to go. Running to the shelter of God’s wings keeps my mind from wandering off course and onto the battlefield in my mind. Though seemingly counterintuitive, it is this sacred space of refuge that winds up winning the war.

RESTING IN HIS REFUGE

Resting in His refuge, relinquishes my need to know how everything is possibly going to work out. Here, I don’t have to worry about all the what if’s; victory comes when we let God be our burden-bearer.

3 Keys to Wage War on Your Worry

1. Drop that heavy load at the feet of Jesus; He’s your Burden Bearer. No need to feel guilty because His Word gives us this command: cast your cares upon Him because He cares for you. Now your hands are free and you’re ready to fight.

2. Take every thought captive in Christ; do yourself the favor of a brain dump. March your pesky problems into the throne room and trade them for His possibilities instead. Again, God’s Word tells us to come before His throne to receive grace and mercy in our time of need. Now that your mind is freed up, you can rest your weary head.

3. Use your most powerful weapon-prayer. Talk it out with God. Then, dare to believe He is listening!

Unfortunately, prayer is often our last resort when it could be our go to.

Going to God gets results because Jesus is our Answer.

4. Know this: you’re not in this alone because we have an Advocate in Holy Spirit, an Approachable Father in God, and a yes and amen in Jesus. This added benefit of being a child of the God of Angel Armies allows us to rest, letting God fight our battles just as He promised.

Use these three keys above to win the battle over worry and get yourself some much needed sleep!

Drop. Dump. Dare. Then, enjoy dreaming with God!

Prayer: Father God, tonight I’m worried about so many things. But, right now I’m choosing to drop my burdens at your feet, dump my cares before your throne, and dare to believe you’ve got everything under control. Thank you for being my Burden Bearer and helping me be victorious over my worry. I want to fall asleep dreaming with you! Help me trade my problems for your possibilities! In Jesus’ might name I pray, Amen.

Key verse: “For though we walk in the flesh, we are not waging war according to the flesh.” 2 Corinthians 10:3 ESV
